George’s Food and Spirits is located in the historic George Washington Grand Wyndham Hotel in Winchester, Virginia.   The hotel and consequently the restaurant’s history began when the American Hotel Corporation started the “Colonial Chain.”   The connection to George Washington began with the Washington Family receiving large land grants from Lord Fairfax here in the Shenandoah Valley.  As a young man, George Washington began his work career here in Winchester as a surveyor.

George’s Food and Spirits is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  The restaurant menu is a combination of today’s international influence while remaining true to its Southern comfort food traditions. The American Burger is a favorite among many and so is the selection of Virginia’s wild caught and farm raised oysters prepared baked, fried, and roasted.  The wine to try while dining at George’s Food and Spirits is the Revaluation Red.

Come down to Old Town Winchester, Virginia and experience the history of this great hotel and restaurant.

Meet Suzi Smith, General Manager of The George Washington Hotel  / George’s Food and Spirits Restaurant

Suzi Smith Gen Manager | Taste of Blue RidgeIf you thought The George Washington Hotel’s manager, Suzi Smith, would be anything other than a Harley Davidson riding grandmother of 12, you’d be dead wrong. This woman is a trendsetter and trailblazer. She’s got the keen eye and sharp mind necessary to run a hotel with a long history like the George Washington.

Q: What is your favorite thing to order off the menu at George’s Food & Spirits?

Unfortunately, Suzi suffers from several allergies that restrict her from eating a lot of the menu items, but that hasn’t stopped the chefs from creating what they jokingly call the “Suzi Special”! A bed of spinach topped with bacon, tomato slices, and fresh grilled chicken, the healthy and safe concoction has become a bonding and conversational piece between her and her staff.
